Inspiration: The one and only bumper-sticker I have ever put on my car (it's there now)says "I love my country... but I think we should start seeing other people." I try to see other people. Further: Grief (being suddenly widowed from the love of my life): it inspires a person to not waste time or get ruffled about anything that can be fixed. Having loved and been loved by my late husband: well and for a long time (23 years) including sticking out some fairly brutal stuff and coming out the other side My late father, also a writer, who used to say the following: "God sees the truth, but waits, " "Nothing is wasted on the writer, " and "Editors come and go, but the writer remains." Virtues: Oh, Lordy, you can probably pick 'em out from above. More seriously: transparency, another gift of grief... you realize, there's no time to fake it in this life. Pretty much able to hang out with mystery and unanswerable questions, not asking "Why did this happen?" so much as "This happened... how will I use it?" Living what I know.
Vices: Being too much of a knee-jerk know-it-all (something I'm constantly working on). Oh, my desk, my desk! NOT living what I know.
