Liz Hurley Goes All Organic
Posted by Joshua W. Jackson on August 25, 2006 - 4:33am.

Elizabeth Hurley, widely known for her work as an undercover fembot in the Austin Powers movies, is quitting show biz to get back in touch with the earth. The British beauty has announced her plans to devote all of her attention to organic farming. While environmentalists everywhere rejoice, in other circles the debate rages on over whether this will be the first set of all natural tomatoes Hurley has ever grown.

Later this month, star Republican Senator John McCain will undertake a five nation trip to scope out effects of global warming along with a group of other GOP senators who want to observe evidence of a climate crises. McCain, an environmental hero who ignored party lines to support an industrial emissions cap, is leading the tour through Europe and Eurasia. Millions of Americans are thrilled that the destruction of the world has become a bipartisan issue, but many are convinced Senator Saxby Chambliss is only tagging along to investigate foreign beachfront property before it's actually foreign beachfront property.

This year's Sunset Junction Street Festival, held this weekend in L.A.'s Silver Lake neighborhood and boasting such performers as Hank Williams III, The Cramps, DJ Daz, and The Eels, will host its visiting celebrities in an actual green room, thus giving various movie stars a place to hang out between acts other than the SUVs and Hummers they arrived in.

The Governator demanded one million green roofs and hoped to gain one million green votes this week when he signed a bill that calls for a dramatic increase in solar roofing in the state of California. As the November 7th gubernatorial election grows closer, some speculate that Schwarzenegger is considering installing solar panels on his body to boost his eco-image. Supporters say the panel on his chest could power the entire production of Terminator 4, and the panel on his brain could supply a lifetime worth of energy for every person who enjoyed Collateral Damage.

They slaughter horses for food, don't they? Not if Willie Nelson has anything to say about it. Nelson, a noted eco-activist, joins Bo Derek and Richard Pryor's wife in vocally supporting a bill in the Congress that calls for the banning of horse meat sales to foreign countries. "I don't think it's right that we kill them and eat them," Nelson said. Incidentally, the last time a country music singer spoke out against eating a specific animal, several species of rodents in Arkansas tripled in population.

Not publicly...

I don't think he goes out in public in them very often nowadays. He still has his collection. He had one of them converted to run on hydrogen. That one I think he cruises around in sometimes.

WAKE UP!!!

I was thinking that the world would be a better place if we all did a little organic farming. Nothing like pulling weeds, composting and harvesting the earth's bounty to reconnect. In the EU more families participate in gardening on small plots. Even if you live in an apartment, you can rent or own a small plot and work the land. We have this here as well, but the idea needs to spread.

Devil's Advocate

Just to play devil's advocate - why is killing horses for meat worse than killing cows? I know they're prettier, but are their lives more valuable for some reason?

Interests: Horseback riding, watching the silence of the snow, obviously anything creative, cooking
Inspiration: Like most of you, when I heard of recycling to save the earth, I naturally assumed I needed to separate my plastics, newspapers and glass. I was helping. That was all I needed to do. Then one day, I was searching around for something fun, some art, and I came across this abstract piece. It was gorgeous - it looked like a naturally formed wave of icy white water bursting into the air. When I looked closer at it, I saw that it was made from recycled plastic caps. I was in shock. What kind of imagination and talent does that take to look at a plastic cap and see more to it then what it actually is? How can someone be so ingenious that they can take something that we normally throw away and create such a piece of beauty with it? This is the thought process that I could not stop pondering and it took over my mind, body and soul and soon enough became my muse. I began Earth's Journey for this reason. I wanted to show the world that there was more to saving the earth than just recycling. There is beauty in things we can't even imagine, and so many ways to help our planet flourish. There are products out there that we all could use to completely decorate, furnish and run a home... all environmentally safe. You can buy organic bedding, non-toxic cleaning detergents, solar power, or make a change in a small way by using energy-efficient light bulbs. But the best part of recycling and being eco-friendly is the beauty that you'll find here, with all of our different artisans. As you can see I'm very passionate about this type of artistic creativity, and I hope you will be too. I invite you to sit back, relax and ... Be Inspired by Green!
