The Green Room: Diddy, Environmentalist?
Posted by Joshua W. Jackson on August 18, 2006 - 5:50am.

Diddy, the artist formerly known as P. Diddy ...and Puff Diddy ...and Puff Daddy, is known for his love of all that's extravagant and ridiculous (especially SUVs). But this week the music mogul actually took a stand against waste, however accidental. Diddy tried as hard as he could to be a jerk, but ended up doing something socially responsible when Britain's Radio 1 offered him fruit and pastries served on a paper plate. The multi-millionaire was insulted and refused to eat until the same food was served on china. China, incidentally, is washable and doesn't need to be thrown out after one use. Critics emphasize that Diddy's demands had nothing to do with concern over the environment, but with a guy who refuses to use his own name twice, we'll take what we can get.

Reused or recycled furniture is all the rage with eco-conscious people who hate to see perfectly good futons fill landfills. Given that sofas, chairs, and beds are large and often made from unnatural materials, this movement could make an impressive difference for the planet. And now, Paris Hilton's old bed is for sale. While we'd never recommend getting into Paris' bed, if it's still in good condition at this point in her career it's sure to suit the average person's needs for decades to come.

Everybody's favorite eco-celeb Leonardo DiCaprio is vacationing with long-time friend Tobey Maguire in Hawaii this month. There's no word on whether the megastars are staying at a green resort or a conventional hotel, but given DiCaprio's impressive track record and passion for the planet, the trip is probably carbon neutral. On the other hand, Maguire and DiCaprio probably didn't offset the energy used by hundreds of paparazzi who surely followed them to the island to get a picture of the pair in bathing suits.

Britney Spears, frequently criticized for her mothering skills, is putting her foot down on the issue of exotic wild animals being kept around the house. Boyfriend Kevin Federline has six pet Australian gray nurse sharks, but Britney feels that with another child coming into the household, it's just too dangerous. (Apparently if only one of her children was at risk of being devoured, it'd be okay). Federline reportedly responded to the news by asking if he could needlessly remove a different sort of animal from its natural habitat, like a pop star from its successful music career.

Noted alternative fuel activist George Clooney has a brand new set of wheels. His brand new electric Tesla Roadster, not publicly available until next year, can go from 0-60 in 4 seconds and has the ability to make GM execs go from nervous to suicidal at the drop of a hat. Clooney isn't alone in his desire for a more eco-friendly way to get around Hollywood, though. Bruce Willis, typically a vocal supporter of the republican agenda, says he'd like to switch to an electric car. With the fourth Die Hard hitting theaters next year, sources say Willis, fifty-one, is eager to find any energy source that may help keep his career going.

Hey everyone should start getting one -- we won't need oil anymore.  Save the environment!

He recently hired a *second* private jet in France simply to carry his luggage which was too excessive to fit on the first jet.
I'd love to be the bouncer at a party sometime just so I could pretend not to know who he was and turn him down.

Just because they are rich they think they are so much better.  I have some money and i tell you now   no one could ever tell.  I live well and am the same as the next guy.  being rich isn't an excuse to think your better than anyone.  we are all one . peace

Interests: Horseback riding, watching the silence of the snow, obviously anything creative, cooking
Inspiration: Like most of you, when I heard of recycling to save the earth, I naturally assumed I needed to separate my plastics, newspapers and glass. I was helping. That was all I needed to do. Then one day, I was searching around for something fun, some art, and I came across this abstract piece. It was gorgeous - it looked like a naturally formed wave of icy white water bursting into the air. When I looked closer at it, I saw that it was made from recycled plastic caps. I was in shock. What kind of imagination and talent does that take to look at a plastic cap and see more to it then what it actually is? How can someone be so ingenious that they can take something that we normally throw away and create such a piece of beauty with it? This is the thought process that I could not stop pondering and it took over my mind, body and soul and soon enough became my muse. I began Earth's Journey for this reason. I wanted to show the world that there was more to saving the earth than just recycling. There is beauty in things we can't even imagine, and so many ways to help our planet flourish. There are products out there that we all could use to completely decorate, furnish and run a home... all environmentally safe. You can buy organic bedding, non-toxic cleaning detergents, solar power, or make a change in a small way by using energy-efficient light bulbs. But the best part of recycling and being eco-friendly is the beauty that you'll find here, with all of our different artisans. As you can see I'm very passionate about this type of artistic creativity, and I hope you will be too. I invite you to sit back, relax and ... Be Inspired by Green!
