After issuing its decision on wetlands protections last week, the Supreme Court once again made headlines in environmental news this week: The Court decided to hear the case about whether the federal government is required to regulate greenhouse gases.

In a landmark victory for religious freedom, the Supreme Court unanimously rejected the Bush administration's claim that it can bar a small congregation in New Mexico from using a hallucinogenic tea to connect with God during its rituals.

Chief Justice John Roberts led the court in its religious freedom decision and moved decisively to keep the government out of a church's religious practice. Federal drug agents should have been barred from confiscating the hoasca tea of the Brazil-based church, Roberts wrote in the decision.
