Aromatherapist and social activist David Crow founded Floracopeia: Aromatic Treasures for Health, Beauty and Abundance three years ago. Its mission is twofold: to bring organic, fair-trade, community-supported principles to the production, distribution, and sale of essential oils and to educate people about their benefits.
LIME chatted with the essential oil evangelist shortly before a "Fragrance and Consciousness" workshop, one of many he conducts.
Like most 21st Century women, Laurie David tends to keep a pretty full schedule—she's a mother, she's a wife (to Curb Your Enthusiasm's Larry David), she has a demanding career. And she's saving the world.
Well, that last one is only partially true. She'll be the first to tell you that saving the world is a job for all of us, and it can't be done by a single person. Nonetheless, it seems that she picks up more than her fair share.
Blake Jones was an in-the-field engineer for Halliburton/Brown & Root when he left the oil industry to build renewable energy projects in Nepal. He now lives in Boulder, Colorado, where he co-founded Namaste Solar, a small, employee-owned solar electric company. When he's not installing photovoltaic panels, he's spreading the good (renewable) word about alternative energy through policy work and local seminars. LIME talked to Jones about his switch to renewables, working around Maoist rebels, and where, on the road to sustainable energy, the United States is today.
Most of us are aware of the paradoxically hard work it takes to find time to achieve balance in life. Some days it's as simple as finding the willpower to choose the organic salad over the burger and fries, other days it's feeling the pressure to find time in your busy day to meditate. But in the midst of rushing around to juggle workload and family time with the myriad of other obligations, achieving balance isn't always easy. Enter the JivaDiva.
While its roots stretch back in time to an ancient sage named Vamana Rishi, nearly 80 years ago the Ashtanga yoga system was passed to Sri K. Pattabhi Jois from the legendary yogi, T. Krishnamacharya. Since 1948, this Jois has been teaching this disciplined style of yoga from his Ashtanga Yoga Research Institute, located in Mysore, southern India, instructing many thousands of people worldwide.
Most city dwellers and suburbanites don't personally know the farmers who grow their food but Nigel Walker thinks they should. Walker is co-owner with his wife, Frances Andrews, of Eatwell Farm, a 70-acre organic farm in the Sacramento Valley of Northern California. Every week, one of his employees drives to the Bay Area in a truck fueled by recycled vegetable oil to deliver boxes of fresh fruits and vegetables to more than 450 members of their community supported agriculture (CSA) farm. He also sells produce at the Ferry Plaza Farmers Market in San Francisco and through three grocery stores.
Interests: I love putting wonderful organic food into my body. I love exercise, dance, running, swimming in tropical waters, yoga, breathing. I love healing and traveling. I am still creating my dream of combining the two in my career. I am passionate about supporting people through their life process. That is what I do for a living as a therapist. It is truely intriguing for me. This is where I thrive. I love witnessing people in their healing process and watching them transform. I love being so uttlerly connected with myself. Feels like a total gift! I love learning about other cultures and experiencing them. I love to nurture my relationships.
Inspiration: My inspiration is my trust in life unfolding and the way things happen. It is fasinating for me to see the universe in action. I trust in perfect timing of life, even when emotionally it may feel otherwise. I trust in divine order. All of the paths inspire me because they are all wanting to get to the same place. I connect with eastern philosophy, and ancient ways of healing.
