Natural Aphrodisiacs
by stacey on February 7, 2007 - 12:51pm
Wondering if anyone has had any opinions about natural aphrodisiacs. They always seemed too good to be true!  I'm not sure any would have any scientific backing except for alcohol and maybe chocolate. Trust me-- I'd love for the theory to be true, but some of it sounds like the placebo effect to me.

power of suggestion
by cybele pascal on February 9, 2007 - 9:07pm

Hi.  Good question!

Some aphrodisiacs contain plant hormones, such as androsterone which is a male hormone that is said to stimulate sexual arousal in females. And oats are thought to encourage the release of testorone in males which revs libido. But often fruits and vegetables are considered aphrodisiacs because of their suggestive shapes, and the powerful effect this has on the mind, which then in turn releases certain chemicals that cause arousal.  For example, bananas, carrots, peaches... need I say more?
