June 19, 2007 - 4:13am
from Los Angeles Times
Craig Calfee, bicycle maker to the stars, has developed a bamboo bicycle that requires no power tools to build and travels long distances comfortably. More than a gimmick, Calfee is now trying to produce the bike for developing countries.

Heard about bats but bicycles?
by Statuesqueone on June 22, 2007 - 8:31pm
I did hear a piece on NPR about the bamboo baseball bats so I'm not too surprised about bicycles made out of bamboo. Sounds like it works and the people who own them really like them, I'll have to look for a picture of one on the Internet.

Anxious to hear how the trip to Ghana went. Hopefully Lime will keep us posted.

Is it more convenient though, I mean for personal use? It just doesn't seem like something that can be safe.

I have a friend who designed his own bicycle, which had a unique bamboo frame. He was very proud of it and rightfully so, since it is an amazing bike.

Ramdomly researching bikes, I have heard of your idea, Craig Calfee. From a photo of your newly bicycle, the bike looked very cool and unique. I could see myself riding it, but I am most interested in how you came up with the idea. It is very light in weight, but tough to protect people from getting hurt. What an amazing piece of art, too! When I first saw it, it caught my attention. I am also aware of the awards your production has won: Best Road Bike, Best Off-Road Bike and Peoples' Choice Award at the North American Handmade Bicycle Show. You are expanding your production, and I encourage you all the way.
