Beyond the candy canes, marshmallow snowmen, and Chanukah gelt is a collection of holiday treats that puts the recipient's health first. Gift giving, too, can be more about wellness and less about another unnecessary sweater.

MSNBC does its readers right with a healthy holiday gift guide. Organic fruit tops the list as the ultimate edible present. Gotfruit has an organic fruit of the month club. Give someone up to 12 months of organic oranges, strawberries, apples, pears, kiwis or mangoes. Old school Harry and David also offers an organic option to its famous fruit-of-the-month club.

Gift certificates for massages or other spa services are also a highly recommended healthy holiday present. As are kids yoga classes for the young ones on your list.

The green minds behind Ideal Bite have found healthy, environmentally-conscious gifts for every character in your life. Check out their suggestions for the animal lover, the hipster, the host/hostess, the entertainer, the businessman, and the metrosexual
