It's a constant question - is it possible to regulate a field that has been unregulated since the beginning of time? While it's well known that many doctors in the western medical community would like to see greater certification requirements placed on herbal medicine - those on the herbal side are suggesting regulations as well.

The American Herbal Products Association, in conjunction with many other CAM organizations (together they form the Traditional Medicines Congress) is proposing new regulation for herbal and dietary supplements. The proposal, titled A Proposed Regulatory Model for Traditional Medicines: Guiding Assumptions and Key Components [PDF], is currently undergoing a review process that is open to anyone who has a thought to share (until June 30, 2006).

The Traditional Medicines Congress is made up of the Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine Alliance (AOMA), the American Association of Naturopathic Physicians (AANP), the American Association of Oriental Medicine (AAOM), the American Herbalist Guild (AHG), and the American Herbal Products Association (AHPA) among others.
