Green tea keeps getting better. Continuously touted for its plentiful antioxidants, the tea has also been linked to better oral health and hygiene and the oxidation of fat. Now a new study has found that green tea benefits the brain.
The study, published in the The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition involved 1000 Japanese people over age 70. They were tested for memory, orientation, ability to follow commands, and attention. They were also asked to report how often they drank specific beverages including green tea.
Those who drank green tea frequently had the least amount of cognitive impairment.
A cup of green tea now and again won't cut it. Researchers found that those who drank at least two cups of tea a day were 54 percent less likely to experience cognitive impairment. And all hot beverages are not created equal. Coffee, black tea, and oolong tea did not show similar results.
