The article points out "experts urge patients to consult their doctors before trying any herbal products"...this can be a good idea for several reasons already stated in the article. There is another consideration that commonly shows up in this scenario...many doctors have not had enough, or in some cases, any, education in herbs and simply say to their patients to avoid possible risks by not taking herbs at all. This "across the board" approach can possibly eliminate some very good rememdies that would not be harmful and in some cases be just the right thing needed for healing.
Checking with a trusted, and highly educated source in herbs like the ones mentioned in the article, The National Certification Commission for Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, or The American Herbalists Guild, or members thereof, in addition to your physician, would allow a better opportunity to not throw the baby out with the bath water.
