My friends and I always got together and cleaned a few parks and highways around the county and planted trees and other pretty things.  Not so original maybe, but it made a difference for a few days at least and the trees are still growin.

Thanks for posting. I will pick up trash in the bushes at the end of our cul-de-sac. That's a little above and beyond and something I've been thinking about doing anyway.

For Earth Day I'll be at the Green Festival. I can't think of a better way to celebrate this important day. I'll be doing my part to spread the word about businesses in the industry.

I'm going to be on the "other side" of a booth at a craft/vendor fair, getting the word out about Shaklee Corporation and the Get Clean products!  I have been using non-polluting cleaners and detergents for almost two decades now and it's about time I share it with everybody I know or will know soon!  I'm also going to use that day to update my membership to the Sierra Club.  Then I'll always remember that is the day to do it!

I'm thinking about taking my children to the Nature Preserve near my home.  They are having a day filled with activities.  They can romp around and learn about how we can better take care of the land we have. We can spend the time together.

i live in such an earth un-friendly place! my housemates and i went to the "earth day" festival in our city thinking that it might be fun and at least a bit inspirational.

how wrong we were! there was hardly any information on recycling, renewable energy, organic food (most of the food was deep-fried, and i'm willing to bet that there were no organic products), etc.
so many people were smoking (yeah, let's promote air pollution on earth day) and littering, which there were bins everywhere for recycling, compost, and garbage!
the most beneficial booth was one talking about global warming...they had magnets with tips on how to reduce carbon emissions. :) BUT this booth was on the outskirts of the whole area, away from most of the other booths, food, etc. so not many people were around there.
there was even a booth about local paper companies where you could spin a wheel and win either paper towels, toilet paper, or printer paper...all i could think about was how many chemicals the company probably uses to make the paper they're giving away ON EARTH DAY!

i'm sorry to complain so much...once i graduate college i will immediately get away from here and live someplace that actually shows they care about the environment...and then i can do everything i want to help save the earth. :)

by the way, we made up for the wasted day by getting a satsuma tree from a local farmer's market and planting it in our backyard. and i also tried some fake meat products with good and bad results (i've been thinking about cutting most meat out of my diet, though i could never give up seafood).

It's really about what each one of us does everyday, not just on earth day.  It sounds like you are being way too hard on yourself.  You are young yet and have your entire life to be where the air is more green!!!

i know! there's just so much i want to do right now! :)

i apologize, i just got a little frustrated last night with the city i currently reside in. i tend to push myself too much too quickly when it's something i care deeply about. i am trying to do all i can at the moment, but it's hard to be confident when it seems like there are so many people who don't care.

Being green is a state of mind and it sounds like you have it.  Many people can claim to go to earth day events and participate for one day, but it is people like you and me who are committed to helping out more than one day a year.  What is that expression, they are just like sunday catholics.  Keep the faith!!!
