I too have vowed to try and be more fitness minded.  Having crossed the over 40 mark recently, it seems even more difficult to keep the metabolism going.  My doctor said you really have to work it if you want to loose inches and pounds.  I try and use the eliptical at the gym which really burns the calories.  You may want to try that. Pilaties is good for muscle tone, but I don't know if it really burns the fat.  There seems to be a lot of talk about your "core" and making it stronger.

I used to be an avid spinner. Did it up to the day before I gave birth to my son.  It really works.  Good choice. Keep me posted. Spin on!

thanks -- im really enjoying it and go 2x/week with a friend --- have also been occasionally going to masala bhangra which is alot of fun. Nothing like indian dancing to remixed music to make you not feel like you're working out --- its too much fun to be exercise.

dance away
by Vicki_R on January 8, 2007 - 11:21am
Never heard of that kinda workout before.  Do you dance freeform or is it more structured than that and do you have an instructor?  I've noticed that now pole dancing seems to be another form of dance for exercise.  It hasn't reached the burbs where I am, but I hear in the city it has quite a following.  You can always earn some money when you get your body in shape! Only kidding.

masala bhangra : Is that anything like NIA ??   I took some NIA classes a few months ago...they were great, but you have to "let go" completely and not care how you look doing what you're doing!!

and here's the description from crunch itself:

Ooh, that sounds so fun! I wish NYU had classes like that. Might be worth springing for the Crunch class once and a while.

I was forced into keeping my New Year's resolution of going to the gym more since I returned home from vacation to find a large hole in the bathroom ceiling and had to go to the gym to shower for a week. We'll see how well I can keep it up when it isn't so necessary!

Alone?
by Vicki_R on January 10, 2007 - 8:36am
Think about how fit dancers are and you really don't have to stretch your mind to realize that it is probably  a blast while being fun.  I checked out the article and it sounds interesting.  Is there a particular body part that the dance targets or is it considered an all over body workout?  Have  you notices a diffrence in your body and is it something you would have fun doing alone at home?

Did you get chance to check out the forum on New Year Resolutions. There is a topic on whether women or men are better at keeping their resolutions.  What is your take on it?  Since you are in school still, you probably have a different and fresher perspective on the issue.
