While I like Whole Foods and the large variety they have available in "Certified" Organics I tend to choose 3 other choices instead that help our environment even more.
1. Our local food coop. Often times the product coming in is not only organic but the coop product helps sustain villages by cutting out the money making middle man and giving it directly to the harvesting farmers who labor long and hard for little.
2. I support our local farmers markets. I can buy organic and non and cut out significant amounts of packaging waste, and eliminate huge amount of shipping and transportation cost to the company and our environment.
3. At harvest time I support our local Cropshare Farmer for my winter canning items when available -- Organic of course.
No junk, little to no waste and no product recall. :)
