How Green Can a City Be?

Green Communities

I am fortunate enough to live in Del Sur, a community that actively supports the green effort.  The community is required to have at least 20% of the homes be under solar power.  Also mandatory tank-less water heaters and weather-based satellite irrigation systems are in most homes. These water-saving systems can potentially save up to 40,000 gallons of water per home per year. The community also requires that at least half of all landscaping be drought-resistant, and reclaimed water is used in community landscaping.  I was just curious to see if anyone else lives in a community like this or what their community does...

california, ahead of the game

I live in New Jersey and all we do is waste, waste, waste!!! I'm going a little overboard to make a point.  You are very fortunate to live in a place that supports being green.  I think your community is ahead of the game.  Hopefully, other cities will follow in your direction.  California as a state, seems to also be paving the way for new initiatives.  Your governor has made cleaning up the state a priority.  What do people think about him?

I think for the most part people are happy with the Governator.  He is very big on saving energy and conservation, but of course there will always be those that don't agree with how he allocates the budget!  If you ever make it out to San Diego you should drop by and visit Del Sur for yourself.  But if your travels don't bring you to this part of the country, you can check it out on the web, www.delsurliving.com.

My husband wants to know if you live by Del Mar?  He had dinner at the restaurant  Poseidan when he was there last week.  I think that is how you spell it.  Have you heard of it?  He said it was very low key and right on the beach.  Thanks again for the info.

Charlottesville-another great community

My best girlfriend lives in Charlottesville, VA and they too are way ahead of the game.  She has been down there for over 13 years now and has been practicing being green before the craze.  It is a pleasure to go visit, since many of the restaurants and activities are geared to be eco-friendly.  It feels great to be with like-minded people in such a beautiful place as well.

I love the Poseidan, they have great food!  They are located about 15 miles west of Del Sur.  So it sounds like are familiar with the area already!

Not really.  A colleague of my husband just moved their last year from New York and she loves it.  She took him to the spot.  She always knows the great places to eat, shop and be seen.  Says shes gotten into surfing.  What a life- I'm envious.

I live in California, but in a very small agricultural town. The only thing we have to our advantage is fresh produce, but other than that unfortunately they are not big on the environment.

I am however, trying to install solar panels in my mother's house, I found this program that offers a great deal for solar panels, you pay monthly for solar panel service as opposed to paying a large amount of money upfront. I would get it for myself, but I still don't have my own home and I rent an apartment. Regardless, I'm sure my mum would be the first to have solar panels in her block and neighborhood even, perhaps we could start a new trend here, highly doubt it though.
