My Sweet Reality
Posted by Little Miss Sunshine on September 19, 2007 - 12:32pm.
Many years ago I was living in Los Angeles working as a nanny and a production assistant. I needed a lot caffeine for both jobs. My drink of choice was diet soda. That soon changed after a visit to the doctor. She found a large round mass in my left breast. It was the size and texture of a hacky sack. She said, “Don’t worry.” Yeah right! I was 25 years old, planning my wedding and thinking about starting a family down the road. Don’t worry she says. She asked if I drank soda. I look at her kind of strange and said yes. She said, “STOP!” Well after a series of follow up visits over a 6 month period the mass was no longer residing in my breast. She explained to me (her belief, theory, medical opinion) that it was the synthetic (chemical) sugar in the soda that was the culprit. Needless to say 7 years later I still do not drink soda. The message my friends is learn what the ingredients are that you and your family are ingesting. Does it benefit you? I did however find a natural option, Stevia. It comes in packets so that you can carry them with you to the restaurants and use in your coffee or iced tea. For more information on artificial sugar substitutes go to www.citizens.org

caffeine too

It also may have been the caffeine.  My doctor told me that caffeine may produce enlarged glands and masses.  I have tried to cut down, but it is really hard to give up my joe.  I also have tried stevia, but found that the taste is a bit bitter.  Do you find that and should I keep trying it?  Maybe it will grow on me!!!!

Keep trying.  I do not find it bitter. I was so happy to find the Stevia. I do love coffee and I have been drinking decaf for over a year due to being pregnant and nursing.I get my soy decaf latte and I am a happy camper.  Becareful of the sugar free flavors they have splenda in them -

Honey?
by NeoHippieMama on September 22, 2007 - 12:24pm
I find that raw honey is very satisfiying and it also has natural enzymes in it to help with digestion.  I suppose you can't get a more natural sweetner than something made by nature.  I use it in coffee, tea, cooking, and desserts.  However, as with sugar cane, too much isn't good for you either.  I tried stevia as well as vegetable glycerine and couldn't use them for long.  Perhaps I didn't let my taste buds get used to it.  I also have used Rice Syrup but haven't found much about it.  Does anyone know anything about it?  Either good or bad?  And Vicki, I'm with you on the coffee.  My naturopath advised me to cut back or at least only drink organic when I can.  But not getting my daily fix is hard!  I wonder if there's a 12 step program for that?!
