Mullein, sometimes known as "torch weed," is an herbal remedy for sore throats, cough, lung disease, and ear infections. Mullein oil has antimicrobial properties for fighting ear infections. Look for mullein oil in your local health food store, or you can make your own: collect mullein flowers in a glass jar and cover with olive oil to submerge them and stir; place the jar in a warm location and let sit for three days before straining the mixture. Apply drops directly into the ear twice daily until symptoms clear.
Eucalyptus is a natural decongestant. Inhaling eucalyptus helps open the sinuses and allows mucus to loosen and be expelled. Buy organic eucalyptus oil at your local health food store and then dab a few drops in a handkerchief and inhale it directly. Or you can add a small amount to a pot of boiling water and inhale the steam.
