Walk Natalie Portman's Way!
Posted by Suzy Byrne on January 11, 2008 - 8:10am.

Natalie Portman cares about your feet.

The globe-trotting actress, who has long been vocal about not using or consuming animal products, designed a vegan shoe line for Manhattan’s largest women's shoe boutique, Té Casan. The collection debuts in February, but pre-orders can be placed beginning January 15. Word has it the shoes will be cheaper than Stella McCartney's kicks, but still in the $200 range. Hey, call me crazy but I'd rather spend $200 on a Natalie Portman product than $1 on any of the purely-for profit crap Jessica Simpson or Hilary Duff have slapped their names on.

Singer Eve made headlines a few months back because she was outfitted with one of Hollywood's hottest accessories — an alcohol monitoring bracelet. Now she's making the papers for something good — being green. She performed in Miami over New Year's and on her celebrity rider — the contract specifying which luxuries celebs gets backstage — Eve's stipulated that "there be no use of Styrofoam or plastic goods, no leather furniture, and only recyclable materials." That's a far cry from Jennifer Lopez, whose rider demands there's "white everything," and Beyonce who insists upon "juicy baked chicken legs heavily seasoned with fresh garlic, seasoned salt, and black and cayenne pepper." So kudos to Eve for thinking of someone other than herself.

Orlando Bloom is in the dog house for endorsing a car in Asia that isn't doing anything to help the green movement. Even worse — the actual commercial, which you can check out on YouTube. Hope the paycheck was worth it, Orli. In other commercial news, Brad Pitt also has a new commercial — for Dell — that will debut during the Super Bowl. But do-gooder Brad has decided to donate his paycheck from the computer people to Bono's Red campaign. Perhaps Orlando should follow Mr. Pitt's lead... unless he's pushing a hybrid.

Let's stick with the man candy for a minute... There's a funny video up on FunnyorDie.com featuring celebrities giving their New Year's resolutions. James Franco of Spider-Man fame delivered one of the more funny bits, which was tough with a crowd like Will Ferrell and Sean Hayes. Opening his fancy sports car, he said: "I think I'm going to help the environment and walk more. In fact, I'm going to walk a lot. In fact, I'm going to start right now..." Then he tosses his car keys to a stranger. "Hey buddy, it's yours," he grins, hitting the shoe-leather express.

Lastly, regular readers of Celebrity Planet will know that I must have had a laugh when it was announced that Paris Hilton's grandfather, Barron Hilton, announced that 97% of his $2.3 billion fortune would be donated to, gasp, charity instead of his heirs. The charity is the Conrad N. Hilton Foundation, established by his father, and it funds clean water in Africa, education for blind children and housing for the mentally ill. But don't think poor Paris – who spent Christmas in Hawaii – is hurting. She reportedly earned $7 million herself in 2006 and her real estate magnate daddy is worth an estimated $300 million, so she'll still be fine despite the news. Is there no justice? Ha ha.

Until next week...
