Start your eco-makeover from the comfort of your couch with Earth Cinema Circle — a lineup of movies to appeal to your inner activist delivered right to your mailbox. For $17.95 plus shipping, you’ll receive a DVD with four to five feature-length and short films on topics ranging from green living and alternative design to eco-friendly adventure travel, food production and conservation, every other month.

Selected from hundreds screened annually, Earth Cinema Circle’s films aim to educate as well as entertain. Each volume is introduced by spokesperson Ed Begley, Jr., costar of HGTV’s green living show, Living with Ed, and long-time environmental activist. Plus, the DVDs are yours to keep — so you can round out your collection of kung fu classics and Hollywood blockbusters with some more thoughtful flicks.

“Films have influenced the popular culture for many years, often for the good,” says Begley. "It's fine if you have the budget to get solar panels or an electric car; those are big ticket items. But you don't run up Mount Everest. You get to base camp, you get acclimated, you start small.”

So get started by letting Earth Cinema Circle’s films into your living room, to inform and entertain you with stories on the ecology of Papua New Guinea, buildings built out of fodder reclaimed from the landfill, or the life cycle of a flip-flop. Sign up at earthcinemacircle.com. After all, you are what you watch.

Big love for Ed B

I have a special place in my heart for the tirelessly activist ed begley. He was eco long before eco was hip, and there's no doubt he'll outlast the fad and keep on living green long after the hype has died down. Plus, he's on Six Feet Under... one of the world's best shows. The man can do no wrong in my book, so I will be sure to check out Earth Cinema Circle!

Pass them on

Too bad eco cinema doesn't work like netflix so you send the dvds back to be used by others. I guess we can do it ourselves by passing them on to friends and family when we're done.

What a neat idea! Since you get to keep the DVDs, it's the perfect opportunity to pass them along and educate others. Hopefully the movies come delivered in environmentally friendly packaging.
